Learning is not limited to the four walls of my classroom. Indeed, some of the most enduring understandings for my students have happened in the hallway, when they make connections to their lives outside of school, and when I take them out of the traditional learning environment.
Since I began teaching I have looked for opportunities for students to learn from different experiences. I have been heavily involved in extracurricular activities and encourage students to do so as well. I have participated and coached activities such as robotics, coding, baseball, and wrestling. Each experience provides opportunities for students to improve their knowledge and skills.
For my students Incheon, South Korea, I was the only native English speaker with whom they interacted. To acquire language, one needs to participate in regular conversations with multiple fluent speakers. As I could not control the amount of expats in Incheon, I utilized the next best resource - Skype!
